That Will Never Work - The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea
Turns out Netflix didn't just pop into existence. A book by Marc Randolph.
This is not merely a book, it is a journey that Marc Randolph brought us along. We were sent back to 1997, together we joined in the journey of trying out all practical and impractical ideas, struggling but thriving to build a startup company.
Reading this book make me felt like I am a part of history, feeling all the ups and downs together with them when Netflix was still in infancy. With how Netflix is the Goliath it is now, it felt even more incredible that all the fragile coincidence and hard work that were poured into the company just to make it into today. Using the founding of Netflix as the backdrop story, the author deliver the core idea again and again, 'Nobody knows anything'. The famous words from William Goldman, is exactly what describe the author's life during the early stage of founding Netflix.
The way the author delivered words and idea through an interesting story is very captivating. You will be sucked into the story and when you realized it, you are already at the end of a chapter. Just like most of the Netflix series. However, the story sometimes felt like he is bragging about himself too much, even though he has all the rights to. I don't find that offensive, but some would not like it.
I would recommend this book to those who like reading biographies and business start up stories.
