Alice in Borderland

What's wrong with Japanese and their gory game show addiction?

Japanese loves game shows. Japanese loves edgy stuff. So they made a lot of edgy gory death game TV shows.

There have been so many death game show in all of Japanese modern media. TV, movie, anime and video games. The genre is the same, the theme is repetitive, the concept is old enough to retire. However, this genre has a thing in it that make people addicted to it. When you start the first episode, you will end up finishing the season in no time.

Alice in Borderland is no different than any other death game show. It is fast paced, predictable plot armor and sometimes unpredictable death. (I really thought the bartender friend would not die) Every episode presents us a new game that they must faced. The story is not dragged out and the death is quick and concise. There is no time left for mourning when you are busy trying to stay alive.

The actors and actresses is unnatural in some scenes, but they deliver an above average performance overall. The background scene and props is commendable, but the series share the same cost cutting technique that most of the non-triple-A films use, a darker lighting to hide the background flaws.

The plot is nothing new, the acting is not natural, the genre has been used so many times and the characters in the series are suffering. Will I still watch season 2 when it comes out? Hell yeah!
